Hair masks: which ones to choose?
Nourishing, moisturizing, repairing… all of these stunning terms when it comes to choosing your hair mask. But by the way, what is the real use of a mask? How to choose it so that it perfectly meets our wishes, while ensuring that it is adapted to our hair?
We invite you to take a stroll through the world of intense hair care to make the best choice, right now!
WHY USE A MASK?
First, it is important to understand the purpose of a mask compared to a conditioner. The latter is a supplement to the shampoo, it serves to support the effect, it conditions the hair between washes, while promoting detangling.
The mask plays a role in the long term. Its benefits are multiple, because it acts in depth according to its composition. It can also restructure the hair fiber, which will make your hair come out stronger and less sensitive to moisture.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REPAIR MASK AND A MOISTURIZER?
Just like dry hair, damaged hair experiences a lack of hydration, but essentially and above all a lack of protein. "Keratin" protein creates strength and resistance in the hair, (see elasticity test) it is essential and indispensable to the foundation of a hair, if you want healthy hair, it will be the first step to consider before moisturizing or sealing your hair.
This weakening of the fiber can be due to the abuse of chemicals (discoloration, colorations, etc.), the repeated misuse of heating tools, or even the premature aging of hair exposed to the aggressions of time…
They are designed for hair in need of hydration (see porosity test). Hair is often dry, dull, brittle, forked, rough, difficult to comb and very easily tangled. Dry hair is hair with open scales. The drying of the hair often occurs when we do not condition regularly and when we do not protect our hair from external aggressions. Some hair types, such as curly hair have a naturally dry condition.

FINE HAIR THAT STAYS LIGHT
Fine hair requires special attention. Fragile, they are more easily subject to be broken. You will have to choose with care the treatments that will repair properly and those that will sufficiently moisturize this hair type. Taking care of fine hair is an art that consists of dosing the use of products adequately to avoid any unwanted heaviness.
FOR A LASTING COLOUR
The mask can greatly help your color stay intact longer. As the coloring can damage your hair, it will have a great need of hydration to maintain the splendor of your new color. That’s why choosing a color-specific treatment will help to enhance it and curb starvation.
You can even choose a pigmented mask that corresponds directly to your color to keep that first day shine between visits to the hairdresser.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TREAT GREASY HAIR?
It would be logical to believe that masks and oily hair are not compatible. On the contrary, it is enough to choose the right routine and components. The excess of seborrhea appears after an over production of sebum to the scalp, so you will have to first choose an anti-seborrheic shampoo adapted to this
The common mistake is to neglect the revitalizing stage. A greasy scalp does not mean that the lengths should be dispensed with repair or hydration. This said, oily-haired people – and fine-haired people in general – should consider treatments and conditioners avoiding those too rich and applications close to the scalp.
WHEN TO DO A MASK?
As a treatment
Several options are available to you. For frequent use (to solve a specific problem), that is to say once or twice a week, apply it washed and dried, according to the instructions on the package.
In addition to a conditioner
Another option is to do the mask once a month, the break time can be extended. This method allows a more in-depth action due to its pause time and helps the most damaged and brittle hair to be deeply treated.
For an optimal result, leave the mask to rest by wrapping your hair in a warm towel; the heat will greatly increase the benefits of the mask.
Different methods can be applied only to moisturizing masks and not repair masks. Always ask our Bradörf & Origa Consultants for advice
HOW TO PROPERLY APPLY YOUR MASK?
Step 1: Brush your hair with a pneumatic wild boar bristle brush to detangle your hair and meliminate all deposits and residues.
Step 2: After having chosen a shampoo adapted to your hair type, apply the product on dried (un)tangled hair and distribute it over your lengths. Remember to stretch the product to the ends by massaging each strand of hair.
Step 3: Allow the mask to act for at least 5 minutes to be effective. It is best to leave the treatment for 10 minutes under a warm towel so that the active ingredients penetrate the fiber.
During the break time you can optimize the treatment by massaging your scalp (without product) in order to activate the blood flow that will stimulate the nutrition of the root of your hair.
! In the case of an oily scalp, we recommend that you perform the massage before shampooing.
Step 4: Rinse the product perfectly with warm water until the water is clear and finish with cold water on your lengths to seal the scales.
