How to maintain, protect and store your hair and beard tools?

Many of us pay special attention to their DIY tools and why not do the same with our hair tools and accessories? Your combs, brushes, scissors or clippers deserve special attention and maintenance.

It is important to take the time to clean them properly to keep a healthy scalp but also to preserve their original characteristics and prolong their lifespan. The Bradörf & Origa stylists share their tips for quality maintenance.

In order to get the best results from your hair tools, you need to keep them in the best possible condition.

How to deep clean your hairbrush.

Bathe your brushes monthly.

  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a little shampoo (or white vinegar). Insert the bristles of the brush downwards, making sure that the water does not reach the wood.
  • Make sure hairbrushes are NEVER submerged in water.
  • Only agitate the bristles in the liquid to remove any oils, styling products or other deposits.
  • Remove brush and shake off excess water. Place the brush with the bristles pointing down on a flat surface. Let the bristles dry naturally and completely.
  • Please do not place on a heat source or in direct sunlight.

Don't neglect the combs

  • Clean with a cloth.
  • To remove oil or other deposits, fill a cup with warm water and add a little shampoo (or white vinegar) use a soft toothbrush to gently brush each tooth.
  • Leave to dry in a dark, cool place.

Routine for cleaning your scissors

A pair of professional scissors can be the ideal tool for precision cutting, but you still have to know how to maintain it!

  • Remove hair caught in the entablature (axle) where the slats pivot.
  • Run under hot water while rotating the blades.
  • Use a soft cloth to clean them, without risking damaging your hands.
  • Thoroughly wipe and dry the scissors.
  • Oil the joint (screw junction) with 2 drops of scissor oil, open and close the blades to distribute the oil evenly.
  • Gently adjust the tightening screw so that by releasing the upper slat it closes on the lower slat (see photo)
  • Store your pair of scissors safely in a kit or box provided for this purpose.

A good habit to adopt is to add a cleaning and a sterilization step to each use of your scissors. Soak a cotton ball in alcohol and clean the blades well, going up to the top of the handle. Then rinse with clear water, adding a touch of soap if necessary. Once perfectly rinsed, do not forget to dry your scissors before oiling them.

Why maintain our hair clippers regularly?

There are several advantages to taking care of your clippers, they will last longer and guarantee you better cutting results (less friction due to hair getting stuck between the blades, therefore less heating and controlled wear) as well as hygiene obvious bacteria.

Let's start with one of the most important parts of maintenance, the blades, they are often overlooked.Nettoyez et entretenez votre tondeuse à chaque utilisation.

  • Clean and maintain your mower each time you use it.
  • Avoid disassembling the parts (blades) of your mower.
  • Brush blades to remove hair. Any stiff, clean brush (toothbrush) will do, but most clippers come with a brush. Simply run the bristles back and forth on both sides of the blades.
  • Never immerse parts of the mower. Use a damp cloth with soapy water (white vinegar, alcohol) to clean the blades. Clean them of traces of soap with a damp cloth only
  • Dry the slides completely
  • Lubricate the blades always with the trimmer head down with 2 or 3 drops of trimmer oil, this step will not clean the blades. However, it is essential for them to remain effective. As soon as you finish cleaning your blades, whichever method you choose, you will need to lubricate your blades. Wipe off the excess product and let the blade run for a few seconds to distribute the oil.
